Accidents happen.

But for some people, the same accident happens over and over again. If you were in an accident or witnessed one and you just can’t shake it, you’re not alone.

In fact, it’s common to experience trauma symptoms after an accident. When your own safety is jeopardized or when you see someone else’s safety at risk, it’s normal to have an emotional response.

But sometimes the response lingers too long after the accident.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You feel as though the accident is about to happen again.
  • You’re experiencing travel anxiety.
  • You’re worried about dying.
  • You dread certain places, activities and situations and you avoid them because they remind you of the accident.
  • You have nightmares, flashbacks and distress when you’re reminded of the accident.
  • You’re having difficulty coping with everyday life challenges at work, with family and with friends.
  • You’re afraid to go out because you might get into another accident.
  • You’re worried about having a panic attack.
  • You have trouble falling or staying sleep.
  • You’re angry, irritable and these days, it’s hard to concentrate.
  • You’re jumpy or startled easily.
  • You’re anxious even though there’s no real danger.
  • You’ve been using medication, alcohol or drugs and they’re just not helping.

If you’ve been in or witnessed an accident and that experience is keeping you from moving forward in life, it’s time to get help. And it’s not too late.
